Mission Statement
To reduce the impact of South Lakeland’s Food, Farming and Forestry practices on climate change by reducing the South Lakes reliance on fossil fuels.
Aims
- To increase South Lakeland’s self reliance in food, fuel and forest products.
- To enhance rural, economic, social and environmental diversity.
Objectives
- To encourage the local community and householders to grow their own and provide a supportive structure to help them do so. This will encompass all
available growing space, from window boxes to allotments and urban centre areas.
- To forge mutually beneficial links between the community and local farmers by forming buying groups and a CSA.
- To increase awareness of local, seasonal produce and how to turn it into tasty, healthy food.
- To set up a permaculture demonstration site for the local community, focusing on food and fuel production and offering educational opportunities.
- To enhance the biodiversity of the local area through promoting the principle of organic gardening, farming and sustainable forestry.
Below is a list of the projects we are currently working on. If you would like to get involved in a project in any way then please contact the relevant

The project is aimed at gathering together a group of at least 50 people who wish buy meat direct from the producer and help support local sustainable

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA): local organic vegetables
Would you like to get your vegetables from a local farm? Would you like to be able to visit the farm, have a say in what is grown there and
how it is produced, to bring the kids and help work the land from time to time?
This project is aimed at setting up a local organic vegetable farm around Kendal to supply local food direct to local people. A CSA is more than that though
- ou will have an intimate connection with the farm, what is grown there and how it operates. If you would like to help us, or wish to register your interest,
get in touch! |
