Energy & Buildings
What are the energy needs of the South Lakes area?
What is the potential for reduction of oil dependency for energy needs through efficiencies (insulation, low energy bulbs etc), new technology (solar thermal, heat pumps, etc) and change of habit (busses, cycling, going to bed earlier etc)?
What is the potential for sensitive, appropriate local energy production?
Wind - Seems to be quite a lot of local opposition but click here for some info and links.
Water - There's no shortage of that all year round. The majority of South Lakeland's industrial energy needs used to be met by water power and many of the existing and derelict wears could be used for modern energy production (I could get really excited about this one).
Geothermal - large and small (ground source heat pump) scale.
Wood - An opportunity to bring neglected coppice woodland back into management with benefits for wildlife, leisure and employment.
Nuclear - Not in my back yard (the world)
